He pretty much says he really likes her and she just either doesn’t believe him or thinks he’s messing with her. However, Iris is kind of dense about Dex’s feelings for her. The chemistry between Dex and Iris was pretty hot, Dex is super protective over Iris – more so as things are revealed in the book – but he does start out treating her like shit which completely warps her opinion of their relationship. But to be honest, her decisions were fairly realistic and I could see myself choosing certain paths similar to hers if I had been stuck in her situation. Iris does make him sweat whenever he insults her intelligence which was very girl power and I was very happy with that decision, however she does make some decisions that aren’t smart. I feel like calling someone you are attracted to or deeply like ‘dumb or stupid’ is a complete turn off and difficult for them to forget.

It has to be said though that he apologises a lot during this book because of his temper which was many times provoked but Iris, the female protagonist, didn’t deserve a lot of the language that came out of his mouth. Zapata clearly writes the sullen, sulky but sexy male love interest extremely well and I found Dex to be intriguing and exciting. I wasn’t quite as charmed by the novel as I was by Kulti however it was a very enjoyable read. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.Īnd the last thing they ever expected was each other.īut it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.Īnother Mariana Zapata novel! I must say, the themes in this book were very different to Kulti with the book being more about gang wars and family angst. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met.

Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else.

But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widower, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women.
